Getting started

Do I need a referral to book?

No, you’re welcome to contact us directly. Some medical aids require a referral for certain benefits, so it’s worth checking with your scheme before your appointment.

Where are you, and is there parking?

We’re at 2 Grasvoel Crescent, Liefde-en-Vrede, Johannesburg, at the back of Our Lady of Lebanon School. There’s secure parking on the premises, as the property is gated.

What are your practice hours?

Monday to Friday, 8:00 to 17:00. All appointments are by booking only. Our parent workshops are held on selected Saturday mornings.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Please bring your medical aid card, along with any previous reports you have, whether from ENTs, doctors, audiologists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists or teachers. These help us understand the full picture from the start, whether you’re coming for a hearing test or a speech therapy assessment.

For speech therapy assessments: if your child is under 4, please also bring something for them to eat and drink. We always observe eating and drinking as part of a speech assessment, so a familiar snack and their usual cup or bottle is perfect.

Hearing tests and audiology

Who do you test?

Everyone, from babies to adults. We use child-friendly methods for little ones, and full diagnostic testing for older children and adults.

Does a hearing test hurt?

Not at all. Hearing tests are completely painless. Most involve listening to sounds and responding, and some tests need no response at all, which makes them ideal for babies.

How long does a hearing test take?

About 45 minutes to an hour, including time to explain your results.

Do you remove ear wax?

Yes, we offer safe, gentle wax removal.

Do you offer workplace hearing tests and school screenings?

Yes. We offer diagnostic hearing tests for industrial and noise-exposed workers, and hearing screenings at primary schools and nursery schools. Please get in touch to discuss your company’s or school’s needs.

Hearing aids

Can I try hearing aids before I buy them?

Yes. You can take your hearing aids home for a trial, at no extra cost, so you can experience them in your everyday life before making your final choice.

Which hearing aid brands do you work with?

We work with Oticon, Phonak, Starkey, ReSound, Unitron, WS Audiology and Southern ENT, so we can recommend what’s genuinely right for you rather than just one brand.

Will my medical aid pay for hearing aids?

Many medical aids offer benefits towards hearing aids, but cover varies from plan to plan. The good news is you don’t have to work it out on your own. We’ll contact your medical aid for you to find out whether you’re covered and how much they’ll pay. We’ll also give you a detailed quote and any supporting documents needed for your application.

Do you offer earplugs?

Yes. We offer musician, noise, swim and sleep plugs.

Do you provide FM systems for children?

Yes. An FM system sends the teacher’s voice straight to your child’s hearing aids, helping them follow lessons more easily in a noisy classroom.

Speech therapy

How do I know if my child needs speech therapy?

Every child develops at their own pace, but if you’re worried about your child’s talking, understanding, eating or reading, it’s always worth having a chat. Our Speech Therapy page lists some common signs, and if you have a gut feeling that something isn’t quite right, trust it.

Can I join my child’s therapy sessions?

Yes, and we encourage it. You know your child best, and seeing the strategies we use helps you continue the progress at home.

How long are assessments and therapy sessions?

Speech therapy assessments take about 1 to 1½ hours for younger children, and 1½ to 2 hours for older children.

Therapy sessions are 30 minutes, either weekly or every second week. We’ll discuss what best suits your child’s needs and your budget.

Do you do dyslexia assessments?

Yes. Megan is a qualified Stark Griffin™ Dyslexia Academy (SGDA) Diagnostician, and assesses children from Grade 3 and up. You’ll receive a detailed report with practical recommendations for home and school.

Can you check my child’s hearing as well?

Yes. Because we’re also an audiology practice, we can check your child’s hearing right here, which is an important first step for any child with speech or language concerns.

Fees and medical aid

Do you bill medical aids directly?

For audiology, we bill most medical aids directly. For speech therapy, accounts are settled at the time of your visit, and we give you a detailed statement so you can claim back from your medical aid.

Do you see private patients?

Yes, private patients are very welcome.

Parent workshops

What are the Little Voices, Big Milestones workshops?

They’re small-group workshops for parents of babies, toddlers and preschoolers, full of practical, everyday ways to support your child’s communication. You’ll also take home a resource pack and receive a complimentary 15-minute follow-up call.

How do I book a workshop?

Contact us with the session you’d like to attend, and we’ll send you our banking details. Your place is secured once we receive proof of payment. Places are limited to 12 parents per session, and there are no walk-ins.
